I had begun working on this collage. I made ATC size images last week and had so much fun that I wanted to try a larger version. I found my magazine image and fussy cut around the part of the image that I want (the entire lady) and then cut out all the face and neck. I lay the image over my page to decide the placement. With this one I wanted to be sure that the word "photograph" showed (down at the scoop of her shirt).for the arm, I cut off the arm, laid it over my oage and cut off the outer edge. I left a little margin at the iner edge and glued this under the face part.
I had these pieces prepped but had not chosen a background yet so I came for inspiration today and though I did some more browsing, I came back to the first thumbnail picture which has a card using the stencil that I used on this print. I had several prints with this stencil and tried one in the same hues as the inspiration piece, but these colors worked better with the gal's shirt. I did take a petal chalk ink and added more blue to the stenciled print.
That's the art process/the how ...if you're interested on the rest of the story I will share the "why" of the piece. I tend to process things and capture my thought via my art.
I was teaching through the Serenity Prayer the other night and the full prayer includes the lines, "Living one day at a time. Enjoying one moment at a time." I have spent a lot of family time behind the camera recording the moments for posterity. Then one day I read something about putting the camera down and being IN THE MOMENT. I shared how real that had all become when we knew my mom was in her last days. The last day my youngest children and Pat spent with my mom we were at the Indiana State Dunes along with my brother and his family and my dad. Typically at such an event I would have read a book or taken a nap and let the kids do their thing, but Mom parked her chair facing the lake where the kids were swimming and goofing around together so I parked my chair next to hers and we held hands and just soaked in that time. That's how I want to live....not looking back and saying "If only I had _________" or fretting about the future "What if __________." I want to stay right here in the now capturing moments, not always with a camera though there will still be time for that, but really and truly present in the moments savoring whatever happens to be going on. I've also written part of Matthew 6:34 at the top.....tomorrow has worries enough waiting for me; let me stick with today!

Gail....I love your exploring with the people. Brilliant to use the text for her face and arms. So poignant. Love the accompanying scripture and sentiment. Wonderful mixed media HE~art.
