I started by embossing a sheet of Stampin' Up! (SU) Pool Party cardstock with the SU "Seaside" embossing folder to look like waves. Then I die cut three sizes of circles from this embossed sheet using the SU "Stitched Shapes" dies.
Next, I stamped the beautiful mermaid from SU "Magical Mermaid" set, and hand colored her using Copic markers. I used my ScanNCut digital cutting machine to scan then cut her out with a 0.04" white margin to emphasize her outline.
The "birthday" sentiment was die-cut three times from SU Tranquil Tide cardstock, then glued together as a stack so that there was some dimension. The "happy" part of the sentiment was stamped using Versamark on the same cardstock, then dusted with white embossing powder and heat set. I then punched it out using a 3/4" circle punch.
The card base is SU Tranquil Tide, the main front panel is a glorious bubble pattern (with glossy bubbles) from the SU "Myth & Magic" speciality designer series paper.
Assembly was straightforward... the circles were glued on per the JAI sketch, then the mermaid was attached using adhesive foam strips. The sentiment was glued on using Tombow.
I really love how this turned out! Since it was an undersea image, and aqua's and teals are my favorite color, I found my happy-space!!!
I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" because of the need to color the mermaid, and cut her out. It certainly was easier with the ScanNCut, but fussy cutting would work, too.
