I absolutely love to tear edges in my work, especially in collage. I also love neutrals so when a collage fb group that I am in had the prompt of neutrals I had plenty of materials to work with. I have previously done embossing with this butterfly over sheet music then sponged and sprayed with the butterfly masked off (on Pinterest it's one of my most re-pinned items) aND did that again here. It showed up better on the other one because the colors were different but I like the subtle effect in these neutrals too. I emphasized the torn edge by doing a faux burnt edge look. I then started gathering more neutral bits and pieces and the book page went perfectly "be changed. Nothing would be quite the same as it had been, not ever. But it wouldn't matter. There would still be good things" Kind of appropriate for the times in which we are living! I always love to put butterflies with change themes as the end of the change is so worth the process! I decided not to be completely neutral as I really wanted the torn edges to show up so I found a gel print that I liked (I did a series in blue trying to achieve a Shibori look). I tore the right edge but it is mostly obscured. The left edge has a strip of edge trim that really sets the image piece off against the black. The right side of my black 12Ã12" sheet has Gesso smeared on with a credit card. Looking forward to framing this.

I've always loved the look of that big butterfly on a print background. You certainly found a great piece of book page to tear, the text is spot on indeed. I like the circle/scaly look of the background - it would work well with fish.

Tearing is fabulous in collages! Thanks for your beautiful work, Gail!
