Today's challenge for our monthly tickle swap is Wabi-Sabi and Kintsugi. Both are Japanese philosophies. Wabi-Sabi is the acceptance of imperfection and flaws and the impermanence of life. Kintugi is an artist technique using powdered gold, silver or platinum to repair pottery and lacquerware. It has become a philosophy to live by: we have all been broken by some event in our lives, divorce, death, estrangement, job loss and we can become even more beautiful and worthwhile when we have worked on repairing ourselves.
I think maybe Ernest Hemingway said something similar first: the cracks let the light in. I used layers of black paper and dictionary paper showing the word 'light'. Edged the paper with Versamark and ep and created a crack to show Dina's cool hanging lightbulbs. Leonard Cohen's words finish it off. Don't be afraid to show your 'cracks.'

I really like how you have to work for the message here! Those are some great light bulbs...I especially like the dictionary pages reinforcing your theme. Most of all the contrast between the darkness and the light with that vibrant yellow gold. This is 'de~lightful' and a hard act to follow, bfnm!

Be back later after work for a better look. I DID have trouble with links, sigh...this one is definitely my favourite and it's the link that wasn't working properly. Love the layers and contrast.

Beautiful mixed media and so fun with both the silver AND gold repairs. I have never minded light coming through the cracks - well except maybe when I'm trying to sleep and the street light outside my bedroom window shines through the slats of my blinds . . .
