This card was made for Retro Rubber Challenge Blog #126 "Winter is Here" theme (https://www.retrorubberchallengeblog...-is-here.html). I wasn't sure if I wanted a birthday card, simple "how are you" card, or a possible Christmas card, so I made the card as a shaker card with no sentiment. I can add that once I decide how I want to use it.
I started with a 5"x7" white card base, and cut a snowy sky background from the 2014 retired "Nordic Noel" designer series paper to 4-3/4" x 6-3/4". I glued this snowy sky centered on the card base.
Next I began stamping my fox and racoon from the 2016 SU "Foxy Friends" set. I have had them for four years and NEVER inked then before!!! . Since the animals were such solid stamps, I knew it would be hard to get a good solid stamped image, so I used my Stampin' Up! (SU) Stamparatus stamp positioner to stamp the fox with SU Pumpkin Pie, and the racoon with Smoky Slate inks onto white cardstock. I ended up over-stamping both animals about three times, so the stamp positioner REALLY came in handy! To finish off the racoon, I used the darker gray ink to stamp his mask and tail, then for both animals I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink to stamp their eyes and noses. They turned out super cute!
After that I used the stamp positioner to also stamp the trees using two shades of green over-stamped a different number of times to give me various shades of green.
I had done all my stamping on a single piece of white cardstock, so to get them cut out, I scanned them into my Brother CM350, set the machine to leave a 0.04" border around the outside, and had it automatically cut them out. To ensure they would cut out perfectly, I used a pencil to lightly "bridge" the colors around the perimeter of each animal so there was no gap between head and body to confuse the scanner into thinking they were two pieces, rather than a single image. These lines were super easy to erase with my electric eraser. This was the first time I used the eraser (got it for Christmas), and can't imagine how I've lived without it for so long!!!
I then assembled the shaker box using glue dots and foam tape to attach the trees and critters at varying heights on the snowy sky background. The shaker snowflakes were punched with an unlabeled punch I've had for at LEAST 15 years. For details on how to make a shaker card you can check on Pinterest (there are TONS of them) or on Splitcoaststampers at: Surprise Shaker Card Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers
This card turned out so darn cute!!!
I am rating the difficulty level at a "3" out of a possible "6" simply because of all the cutting and assembly work. However, in reality, with my digital cutter it was definitely more like a "2"!!!
