This card was made as an inspiration card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch Challenge #444, with the optional challenge to use scraps from you stash.
I had seen Jennifer McQuire (https://www.jennifermcguireink.com/2017/04/rainbow.html) make some really beautiful rainbow scrap background cards, so thought this would be a great way to use up some of the scrap pieces from a Valentine paper pad I bought a few years ago (yes, I keep EVERYTHING!).
I started out by cutting a 4-1/4"x 5-1/2" piece of white cardstock to serve as my base. I then took five pattern scraps from the Valentine paper stack and cut them into varying random widths using my paper trimmer. Be sure to cut them LONGER than the diagonal of your base you plan to glue them to!!!
I then simply applied glue to small diagonal sections of the base at a time (to allow me to move the pieces around to ensure no gaps between strips), and layed contrasting strips next to one another until I covered the entire base. Then using the trimmer, I turned the piece over and trimmed all the extending strips off.
This piece was then glued to the front of my SU Real Read card base.
The central heart was made using leftover die cuts from a Valentine project from last year (I told you I save everything). Even the "love" word was in my stash!!! The only thing I die cut was the red craft foam backing which I glued to the back of the red heart to give added dimension. The pink heart was attached to the card front using adhesive foam strips.
Of course, the white ribbon with red hearts was from my drawer of scrap ribbon as well. So I think I met the "scraps" part of the challenge in spades!
I am rating the difficulty level of this card at a "2" out of a possible "5". In reality, it's a "1", but it does take some time and patience to cut all the strips and fit them together. All the die cutting is super easy, too.
I think this will make a great Valentine's Day card for one of my daughters... a bit too much pink to work for a guy card.
