An Amazing Birthday
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: donnaks

This card was made for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Sketch Challenge #441 with the option challenge to use foil. The sketch was a diagonal with a center feature, so I used the gorgeous two Stampin' Up! (SU) foil cardstocks cut into 1/2" strips. I wanted the card to open on the diagonal, so used my paper trimmer to cut the front of the card diagonally from corner to corner. Then glued two of the foil strips on the front triangle, and their third on the inside so it abutted against the center foil strip when the card is closed.

The beautiful Nuthatch was cut from the SU "Bird Ballad" pattern paper using my Brother ScanNCut digital cutter. I then glued the bird onto a square of SU Groovy Guava cardstock I had but out with a stitched square die, and matted it with a stitched square of SU Lovely Lipstick foil cardstock. The assembled bird element was attached to the front of the card only using adhesive foam strips.

The sentiment is from the SU "Humming Along" stamp set, which I first inked with Versamark, then with SU Melon Mambo before stamping it and covering with clear embossing powder before heat setting to give it a glossy finish like the foil strips.

I had some bits of flowers left over after cutting out the bird, so used a piece on both the inside and outside of the card for added interest.

This card wasn't very difficult since I used the ScanNCut, but a warning... if you use liquid glue BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO GET GLUE ON THE FOIL sheets. I tried everything to try to remove a few stray glue areas, and finally resorted to just cutting new strips and applying them with super sticky double sided tape (Scor-Tape). I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" because of the need to cut out the pattern paper, and dealing with gluing down the foil strips. If you have a digital cutter that can scan and cut out what it sees, and you use double-sided sticky tape the card is a LOT easier!
