I made two cards for the challenges today. For the F4A, my favorite gifts are always art related. A friend painted a cardinal on a slice of wood for an ornament, I bought myself a pottery tile of trees by a Milwaukee artist. She uses a technique called Sgraffito, which means 'scratched.' I bought it at the Schlitz Audubon center for rescued raptors, like eagles and owls. I received some stamps and ephemera from my bfnm, and, finally, my sister made one of those picture books with photos of all my Dad's artwork. I will treasure it. She will make another book for each of us someday, featuring his art created during WWII. Mostly drawings, but he did some paintings with natural materials, like berries, because he didn't have any paints.
I tried using iridescent medium on the left-hand card to mask the black and white sentiment in an oval, but it is still stained from the DOx inks. Maybe iridescent medium isn't the right thing to use?? Then I did an easier way on the right, just by die cutting an oval with the stamping. I wanted to bring out both ovals and maybe make the left-hand one whiter, so I used the Lumiere pearl paint. As you can see, it's still not very white. Ah well, live and learn.

Both of these are really pretty. Putting them side by side though, makes me favor the one with the die cut oval. The contrast is so much more distinct. Happy New Year.

You were definitely inspired by all the artful love you received! I, too, like the diecut circle. Your bg is so full of shimmery goodness, it gives the eye a calm spot to land. AND how true is Picasso’s message. Awesome, bfnm!

Your gifts sound lovely, I like the sound of that tile. Count me in with those preferring the one with the die-cut, although actually I really like the colour on the oval on the left one. Do you have microglaze? That works pretty well as a resist for masking, though I've not tried it with DOX. Speaking of which, the backgrounds are beautiful.

I love both with a little advantage for the die cut but I think that's because the word art on the left one doesn't show through totally I love the beautiful colors and you had some fun and lovely gifts!!
