This is idea is not original, I saw it on Pinterest. I made this for my sister, who is a very good knitter. Janet finds knitting relaxing, so she buys beautiful yarn, but does easy patterns for the most part, so she doesn't have to think too hard.
The glass ornament is wrapped with three kinds of yarn, glued in places, until the ball is covered. I used rock candy sticks for the knitting needles, painted the balls with silver paint and made them a bit shorter. They're just tucked into the yarn. Sentiment is the 'wit.' I regret that my yarn is not wool, probably acrylic. This yarn has been roaming my stash, bought long ago for card embellishment. But it is rather 'wooly.'

Oh Jean, what a clever and creative idea for the challenge, it's brilliant. An ornament to treasure over the years. Your yarn, real wool or not, looks great, as do your substitute knitting needles. I think I've used cocktail sticks in the past, or broken real knitting needles - the finer bamboo ones break easily. Bonus points for the knit wit, definitely.

SUPER CUTE!!! I'm SURE your sister LOVED THIS! As a knitter, I DO THINK this is SO NICE & thoughtful! I too do easy patterns! I like smaller, useful items to knit. I can't take the long drawn out patterns either! Too short an attention span! ;) A SUPER JOB!!! ;)<3

Love this ornament you created with yarn wrapped around a glass ball. Thank you for sharing how you made it. This is the first one of these I’ve seen, so I am delighted you shared it with us here for the Knit Wit Challenge.
Popping this into my Favs to share with my church friends as a possible project for next year’s bazaar. I’m always on the hunt for fun projects that have eye appeal and use easy to find products. Thank you SO much for the non-card inspiration piece, it’s wonderful!
