I could not get my chalks pastels to get much darker than what I accomplished with my background. I stamped it with versamark ink and then brushed or sponged the chalks over it. Neither the makeup brushes or the sponges seem to get it any darker. I stamped the rose with black ink and then watercolored if with my SU water color pastels I had not used in forever.

I love your soft colored background, it was the same for me with sponge so I rubbed directly the pastel and used a tissue to blend the color, using several colors or adding a bit of black makes the stenciling pop but your rose is so pretty on this soft background!!
