Holley is hosting her first challenge and I must say she challenged me with this: Real Red + Early Espresso + Mossy Meadow with sponging for dessert. If you are familiar with my work I don't typically use a lot of the darker colors and I don't use sponging that much unless it's quite subtle (or done with daubers...)
And then there was last weekend, when I got one of my favorite new sneak preview sets, Painted Poppies, as a prize. Do poppies call for red? That's Minnesota You Betcha! I pulled out one of my go to sketches for outline flowers and got to work stamping, masking and coloring with Holley's colors. I don't usually do any sponging with this sketch, keeping to a crisper look so I tried something different here. Instead of an Early Espresso mat layer I sponged a piece of white with the same color, taking the opportunity to vary the depth of the color. And, since I had a little ink on my fingers that transferred to my crisply colored top layer, I lightly sponged that too - to cover up some tiny smudges. I little skinny seam binding and some rhinestones and Voila!
I just know you will enjoy this color combination so I hope you have time to stamp along with us!
