This is my entry for Polly's Falliday challenge about family traditions. I decided to focus on a family tradition from my DH's side of the family. That is to make Vinaterta, an Icelandic holiday cake. This is my attempt to make it with punches, the inset is a photo of an actual Vinaterta.
It has seven layers and you make it in October or early November to enjoy a little of it at Thanksgiving, but it is well cured and tasty by Christmas. The first little bit, you let it sit out on the counter, eventually it cures in the refrigerator. It is a rich and tasty dessert and was my introduction to the spice Cardamon.
I used a recent sketch challenge to create the background for my Vinaterta doing some tone on tone stamping for texture.
Vinaterta is an important tradition to my DH's family and much loved. In fact, one of his sisters chose to have it for her wedding cake!
Thanks for the challenge and thanks for looking!

Catherine I've never heard of this cake and tradition. Thanks for the info on it...I like cardamon so I'd probably like your cake. What a cool card...and it does look like the picture you inserted.

Very creative card for this tradition. My husband's family used to have a tradition from their Finnish/ Swedish heritage, an apple cake, which I gave made twice in my life. Thanks for twigging a warm memory.
