Birthday Blessings Stitched Cross
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: papercrafter40

My mom asked me for a religious-themed birthday card for a friend of hers who is an Irish priest. I know he keeps special cards, so I had no qualms in going "above & beyond" for this one.

I downloaded a Celtic cross image from Pixabay.com. After sizing it in Photoshop for my panel, I printed it out on copy paper. I used my lightbox to help me see to trace the design onto the back of my Icy Mint panel. I poked holes along the lines with my paper piercer, then stitched the design with a light tan floss for the outline & dark blue for the inside flourishes. All-in-all, the stitching took me about 2.5-3 hours.

I didn't have a good place to put a greeting, so I decided to use a vellum overlay. I cut a panel of vellum to 4x5.75", which was the width of my cardstock panel & 1/2" longer. I stamped "Birthday Blessings" in Versamark on that, and heat embossed with gold. I positioned my vellum panel over the cardstock so that the bottom & side edges aligned, and folded the top of the vellum over to create a flap. I adhered the flap to the back of my cardstock panel with double-sided tape. Finally, I used more double-sided tape to adhere the panel to a navy mat, and mounted that onto a white card base. You can see a photo of the vellum overlay at this post.
