This is the 2nd card I made for today's TLC Challenge. Judy is our hostess and she has challenged us with a great challenge called, "Coloring Mediums." Meaning, use the coloring medium you are most uncomfortable with - YIKES! I have 2 that terrify me - water colors and colored pencils.
So, while my water color card was drying, I was doing my best to color this large magnolia blossom that was gifted to me by a friend. I lightly added color to each petal, blended with a small amount of gamsol and a blending stump; let dry, then repeat about 3 more times to get the color I wanted.
Die cut the doily from vellum, then used a makeup brush and crumb cake ink to lightly add color to the vellum. Stamped the birch background onto the card base and heat embossed a sentiment in the lower corner. Once the flower was colored to the best of my limited abilities, I took some gold metallic thread and wrapped it around my hand a few times and loosely secured it to the back of the magnolia bloom. Adhered flower to card base using dimensionals.
I want to thank Judy for today's challenge that got me waaaaay out of my comfort zone not once, but twice today. That is a record for me! And thank you for looking today! ~Karen.

Wow, you spent some time on this one! I love your coloring and I was trying to figure out how your doily looked like the same color as your card base. Good trick!! Wonderful results!!

Karen, this is lovely! The vellum adds such a soft grounding background for your flower. The softness of the pencil blending is beautiful! So glad you played along today!

Your magnolia is SO beautifully colored on this pretty card. The Kraft bg sets it off so wonderfully. One would never guess watercoloring and pencils aren't your coloring mediums of choice, Karen!

Bee-you-tea-full! Love your gold thread around this fabulous colored, I might add, bloom. Love the subtle stamping of that birch background. It is on my ordering list. The vellum doily is perfect base for your flower!

GORGEOUS! What a beautiful blossom. You would never know you don't like pencil coloring. Not long ago, I discovered a blending pencil, I like it a lot better than the stumps.

Karen, your shading is fantastic. I never know where to leave the highlights, and unless the image has built-in shadow lines, where to make it darker. But your magnolia has such life and dimension to it. They're one of the trees I really love.
