The current Ways to Use It Challenge, WT754 - Lets Go Sailing - 8/22/2019, was to use a boat of some kind on a card.
Living in the desert, I donât have a lot of boat images in my stamp collection, and the ones I do have donât see a lot of ink! It made me smile to pull out an old favorite SU image from a few years ago called Sail Away. I remember making 2 cards using the stamp and when I found this image already stamped on watercolor paper, I knew it was meant for this challenge!
I did a simple wet-on-wet watercolor wash to color the sky/sea. To prep the paper, I did a light wash of clean water over the image, in the area I wanted there to be color. Versafine Black ink is pigment, so is watercolor friendly.
Then I smooshed SU ink pads onto acrylic blocks and and added water to each color to create a palette. Colors I used were SU Baja Breeze (top color, did it first); SU Marina Mist (middle color, applied it 2nd) and SU Island Indigo (bottom color, applied last).
The colors were applied to the wet paper (in the order above) with a not-too-wet watercolor brush. I let the color flow where it wanted to...fortunately it pretty much minded its manners and didnât make a mess! Ha...watercolors are not known for being predictable, so I was holding my breath on how the colors would flow.
I choose a weathered Woodgrain textured cardstock for the card base and a panel of Marina Mist dry embossed with SU Seaside embossing folder. The sail boat panel was popped up with dimensionals. I used a cotton cord, repurposed from a clothing tag, to add a nautical touch and finished off with a sprinkling of moonshine sequins.
Thanks for sailing by to take a look at my boat card. A happy, rest of the summer to you!

I really like that weathered gray woodgrain base for your lovely boat scene - and the blue wave embossing which you've matched so well with your watercolouring. You certainly had the perfect image all ready to use - and have a lovely masculine card to show for it (though I'm sure anybody would love it, I know I would).
