So, I did look at Joan's tip for scoring your base to line up the strips and it did give it an embedded look which I really liked and as I went along with my scraps one went crooked... and when pulled it up it did wreck the card base. So, the design changed to include some wider strips cut free hand on my papertrimmer to hide the blooper. which I ended up liking better having the mix of sizes. I did tweak this to fit the July Dirty Dozen Christmas card prompt found here and am claiming it towards my July cards total ( 1 of 4) Thanks for these challenges ladies & tfl.

Oh, I'm so glad you gave Joan's technique a try. I've used it several times over the years. The scoring does give it a very finished look. I was expecting Santa from your card title in the challenge thread...fun to find a penguin instead.
