Judy is the hostess for the TLC challenge today - it's an EIONA week so we're revisiting an old challenge to use brayered paper elements.
I did my brayering before work. Since I was already out of my comfort zone I used colours I don't normally pick: my flowers are dusty concord and worn lipstick, and the leaves are pine needles and twisted citron. I used a scrap of cling wrap background to cut the very centres of the flowers.
Got home from work and found this sanded pencil background in my box - I thought the open texture worked well with the brayered pieces. So I cut the front panel and sponged the edges with dusty concord. I stamped and punched the sentiment, using the edge of the pencil background piece, also sponging the edges and popping it up on foam.
I arranged the flowers and leaves, and added a little bee - his body is gold glitter paper layered behind black, and the wings are vellum with silver lines drawn on. The bee and two of the flowers are popped up on foam.
The sanded pencil background tutorial is in the Tutorials section HERE. It's a super technique.

Love the colors on those flowers - I am collecting DOX inks VERY slowly - you'd think since purple is my favorite color I'd have gotten at least one early on - but no - I am hoping my local store has that dusty concord cause it's gorgeous! That glittery bee makes quite a showing against the foliage and the stenciled bg blends seamlessly with the mottled brayered application of inks on those die cut leaves. Nicely done with a tool that's out of your comfort zone.

I just love the colors and textures of that background and it took me a minute to realize the flowers were the brayered part. ( I had thought ooh she smooshed it through a stencil at first glance)

These flowers are gorgeous and that BG is very cool as well. I must try that technique sometime soon. I'm so glad you stepped out of your zone today because this is super!
