I created this card for a challenge sponsored by my Stampin' Up! (SU) upline, Janey Baker at http://www.inspiredstamping.com/ She sent me a few small rectangles of new pattern paper from the SU catalog that is being released June 1st, and challenged me to make a card with them. Upon seeing the gorgeous new "Mosaic Mood" paper I HAD to use the hummingbird with the rose background from the same paper set. I started by fussy cutting the hummingbird, plus the tail from a second bird to give him more hummingbird dignity; then fussy cut a piece of Whisper White Thick card stock to mount him on to add stiffness. I adhered him to the rose patterned rectangle using Dimensionals to raise him up so that he didn't blend into the mosaic background. To "anchor" the mosaic panel to the card base, I used pieces of Terracotta Tile and Pretty Peacock to peak out from the upper left and lower right corners.
The birthday sentiment was stamped using SU Wild Wasabi ink with the stamp from the SU "Beautiful Bouquet" set. The double matting for the sentiment was created by die cutting two different scalloped ovals from SU Terracotta Tile cardstock then taping them together on the back before gluing the white oval on them. Again, I used Dimensionals to mount the sentiment element for added depth. I tucked a scrap of the new SU "Scalloped Lace" at the bottom of the main panel for added femininity.
I am rating the difficulty as a "2" out of a possible "5". The mosaic paper is very forgiving for cutting out shapes, so it was easy to do. Even layering the tail from a second hummingbird was an easy fit.
