My mom wanted a few Easter cards to send to friends of hers. I saw this photo on Pixabay, and was curious if I could recreate it with ink. This card is the result of my experiment.
I used an A2 size piece of glossy cardstock for my panel. I thought of using Yupo paper, but knew I wanted to heat emboss the cross. I know it's possible to heat emboss on Yupo, but it can be tricky, & I didn't want to risk ruining my panel! So I played it safe. I applied lighter inks - yellows, greens, & a bit of aqua--in the center of my panel, mimicking the glow around the cross in the inspiration photo. I added darker blues around the perimeter. Whenever the darker inks encroached too far into the middle of my panel, I just either added alcohol blending solution or spritzed the panel with 91% isopropyl alcohol (in a spray bottle) to lighten and move the colors. Finally, after a LOT of playing with the inks, I had a background I liked.
After letting the panel air dry for a long time, I treated it with my powder bag, stamped the cross on the panel with Versamark, & heat embossed with white powder. I felt the panel was lacking a little oomph, so I added a white dove brad that I've had in my stash for years.
I stamped the greeting on a strip of vellum, and heat embossed with Liquid Platinum powder. I wanted the greeting to show up, but didn't want to cover up my hard-won background. I wrapped the vellum around my panel, and adhered the ends to the back of the cardstock. Finally, I mounted my card front to a white A2 card base. I REALLY love how this came out--I think I captured the spirit of the inspiration photo pretty well, if I do say so myself!
