Paper: The left is brown shimmer paper, metallic copper and rust. The right is Stampin up Metallic champagne and Tonic rusted crimson pearlescent card stock.
The multicoloured background is actually really easy to do but a little messy. If you are looking at my gallery you'll notice that I use it a lot...especially on Christmas cards.
-I start with a fairly heavy piece if card stock. I usually pick a colour that I don't really like or have way too much of because you aren't going to see the colour in the finished product anyway.
-I then cover that with 6in/155mm wide sookwang double sided tape.
-Next I cut it into a 4x6 inch rectangle or whatever base shape you like.
-Peal off the remaining tape covering...so at that point i have a 4x6 rectangle with one very sticky side...I call it a stick platform because it's really the base that holds everything together.
-For this card I was using some leftover shapes cut out of shimmer paper and then cut out some pierced butterflies. You might need to experiment here a little. The paper you used for the cover needs to be sturdy.
-Take your cut out shape and put it on sticky platform.
-Then sprinkle on your favourite Gilding Flakes. I use a surgical brush from LeeValley.com to scrub the surface until it is shinny and smooth. The excess flakes can be stored and used again later. You might also want to have a tack cloth handy for clean up...also LeeValley or any hardware. It is very messy to do until you get the hang of it and you don't want any wind currents, pets or children around. But once you sort out the bugs it's not bad and I love the effect. When I give someone a card with gilding flakes they literally think I've used some sort of magic!
