My card was made by layering a 4-3/4"x 3-1/2" piece of Stampin' Up! (SU) Whisper White cardstock on top of a standard 4-1/4"x 11" Whisper White cardstock base that was folded in half. I used my SU Stampararatus stamp positioner to stamp the two images at the same time. Because one panel was atop the other, I needed to re-several times to get a good crisp image that crossed the edge onto the card base completely. I used repositional glue to hold them securely in place so they remained exactly aligned during this stamping. Then, I removed the top panel, and stamped one more time on the card base to get a light impression as a guide to allow me to color "under" the top panel to ensure no color gap once the card was assembled (since I was going to raise the top panel).
Next, I temporarily repositioned the top panel and hand colored the hummingbird and flower using the Copic marker colors listed below. To make the stamen on the hibiscus blossom look more realistic, I put liquid Glossy Accents on it. This needs to dry before you further handle or assemble the card.
When the card was dry, I again removed the top panel, and put adhesive foam strips all around the back edges of the panel, then glued a piece of white craft foam to the center. This would allow the card to be mailed without the top panel being crushed.
The final step was to create the birthday greeting. To do this, I dusted the surface of a scrap piece of black cardstock with an SU Embossing Buddy, then stamped using Versamark. I dusted the panel with detailed white embossing powder, and heat set with a heat gun. The sentiment was die cut using a banner die, then glued to the front panel. To ensure the sentiment tag didn't get bent in the mail, I backed the right end overhanging the top panel with a piece of adhesive foam.
I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5" due to the need to align the two panels, and the hand coloring.
Thank you Jennifer for the inspiration!
