My Love/Hate Relationship with Gladiolus
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: jkanack

I love gladiolus, August's birth flower, because of the drama they create in a tall vase and the many beautiful colors they come in. I hate them because they are a symbol that Fall is just around the corner and I'm never ready for Fall, unless it's been really hot. Really I do love them but feel a bit sad when I start seeing them at farmer's markets.
I had to use the old fashioned way of stamp positioning because it's wood mounted, plus I had to mask off the little words 'August Gladiolus.' Good thing I did a small wreath and the glads are taller and actually curve a bit. I colored with the colored pencils and Gamsol. I add some clusters of dots, sponged a bit with the old paper in the middle and stamped a sentiment. Added pearls and scored, that's it. Card was a little putzy.

Great card incorporating both challenges. Your colorful flowers are so cheerful! I share the same feeling with you about glads - they're so colorful and bold but I'm never ready to see summer come to a close...

So cool to combine the challenges! I love your wreath and I know what you mean about the glads. I love them too

This is very cool! We both used this old retired set to do both challenges today.

You were so clever to combine the challenges. I have enjoyed seeing my other stamping sisters who share a birthday month with me sharing their wonderfu gladiolas.

I have mixed feelings about them too! We never had any other than small semi-wild pinky ones, but my FIL grew borders of tall showy ones in all sorts of colours. The curve in them certainly lends itself to creating a beautiful wreath, and the angled layout is a lovely visual contrast to that.

Awesome wreath, Jean. Love the fun images and colors and the way you put it together. Beautiful card. Hugz

Where I live glads stand tall and proud about the middle of May - Sadly it gets too hot too fast and fries their delicate blossoms. These leant themselves well to wreath building - The curve gave a very natural flow to your cicrle.
