What could be more unique than a St. Patrick's Day "leprechick"??? I wanted to make a funny interactive card for my 4 year old grand-daughter. She was watching me make cards one day last week and saw this funny chicken from Stampin' Up! (SU)'s "Hey, Chick" stamp set. As with any 4-yr old, she loves rainbows, things that move, and funny looking.
I started by die cutting the rainbow pieces, then before I assembled them on the front SU Soft Sky panel, used one of the rainbow arches to die cut a "spinner card" slot for the sun. I had to die cut the slot 3x to get it wide enough for the foam dimensional between the pennies to spin smoothly. (see https://www.sharingwhatilove.com/sha...nner-card.html for a good tutorial).
After the rainbow pieces were glued down, I die cut a long cloud, and using a craft sponge, sponged the edges with SU Soft Sky ink. It was glued to the card front to hide the two ends of the rainbow, and form a "grounding" for the other card elements.
The crazy chicken was hand-colored with SU markers in bright crazy colors, then using a digital cutting machine I sized and cut out a green leprechaun top hat for her to wear at a jaunty angle. She was attached with adhesive foam strips to the front of the card at the "end of the rainbow".
The "pot of gold" was first stamped onto white cardstock, the cut out using a Brother ScanNCut. The "coins" in the pot where punched out of scraps of gold and glitter cardstock using a 5'16" hole punch. They were stacked and glued to a scrap piece of cardstock using Tombow glue. The gold was glued to the back of the pot, then the pot was mounted next to the "leprechick" using adhesive foam strips.
The sentiment was printed onto white cardstock in green, then die cut into a cloud shape with a die from the same set as the rainbow. It also was mounted with foam strips.
Because the spinner mechanism had to be free to spin behind the main panel, I put two layers of adhesive foam strips on the back. Before sticking it to the SU So Saffron card base, I first attached a scrap piece of the same blue cardstock to the stacked foam strips so the yellow wouldn't show through.
I think she will like the card when she gets it for St Patrick's Day. It's got all the elements that tickle a 4-yr old's heart! I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" because of all the steps. None are particularly hard, though.
