The current Technique Lovers Challenge, TLC731 - Illusion with Embossing - 2/25/2019, was to add the illusion of depth by stamping an image inside of an embossing folder and then dry embossing that onto card stock. Sounds easy enough, or so I thought until I tried doing it. My trash bin is a testament to how very challenging this was for me!
This card started out to be totally different than it ended up. The stamped/embossed panel with the leaf frond illusion had to be whacked down to less than card sized panel to get rid of the boo-boos I made when I stamped inside the embossing folder. I discovered that with this technique, you dont know what youve got until you open up the embossing folder to take the paper out. Let me tell you up front that I was WAY out of my comfort zone with this challenge!!!! Stamping with no idea clue as to how its going to appear after being dry embossed sound like no big deal....until you try it and it BOMBS...more than once. As I mentioned above, my trash bin got a work out with this challenge!
What I learned from doing this technique is that you have to be willing to sacrifice some card stock, allow lots of fiddle-time and to think outside of the box when it comes to final card design. The hardest part of this for me was trying to figure an appropriate layout and a card base for the weird sized piece that I ended up with. Did I mention that it took a LOT of fiddle time?
After much agonizing it morphed into a thinking of you/get well card, which also worked for the currrent Clean & Simple Challenge, CAS522 - Under the Weather. To add a bit of sparkle and shine, I added some multi sized gold sequins from Simon Says Stamps to finish the piece.
Thanks for stopping by and looking at my first attempt at making an embossed illusion card. Why dont you give it a try? I guarantee you will be surprised, perplexed, amazed and dazzled...and delighted!

Oh, beautiful neutrals! And very effective with the combination of two different embossed designs. No harm at all that you had to parents your main panel down, the framing is so effective. I'm sorry you found it frustrating but glad you enjoyed the overall journey. Funny, there are other techniques (embossing folder stamping comes to mind), where I find it far harder to visualise what I'm going to get. and

Oh, Susy, I'm totally on your team here. I am very uncomfortable with the techniques that I feel like I have no control over. This one was very scary for me too. I am so glad that you persevered because I think this is gorgeous! I love the neutrals and this great design. And such a soothing and comforting card. Brilliant!

You totally nailed the TLC Challenge this week - I had a few trys and gave up! You seem to need the right stamp & EF & you have used both here brilliantly! A great get well card.

I'm so glad you continued to fiddle with your embossed panel because pairing it with the leaf embossing and keeping it all neutral tones really produced a beautiful card! You made a lovely sentiment tag as well! End product, beautiful!
