The Free For All Challenge, F4A467 - I Might Use That One Day -Feb 1, 2019 - served as the inspiration for making of this anniversary card for my hubby. I have lots of parts and pieces for potential cards tucked away and this challenge inspired me to dig through them!
My DH does a lot of woodworking and I often times take a peek in the trash to see what he has discarded. I have saved lots and lots of paper thin strips of wood that were just too tempting to leave! He always asks me what am I going to to do with that, and my response is Iâm going to make something with it someday. Well, today was the day I finally used one of my dumpster-dive-saves from his trash!
The sentiment panel you see on this card was one that I broke off of a long strip of thinly cut wood. I used Versafine Clair Nocturne ink for stamping and it worked really well with only minor bleeding into the wood grain.
The deer die cut is by Hero Arts and it came as a 2-piece set. I used the inside piece to cut the aperture you see here. The other piece of the die set is an ornament shape which allows you create a holiday ornament. Pretty neat design and one I plan on using for winter cards this coming year.
I am not the most accomplished when it comes to watercoloring, so I played it safe by doing wet watercolors on the cardfront using Distress Oxide Inks. I was a tad heavy handed when I laid down water on the paper before brushing the Oxides on top. Thank goodness I had started with a heavy 140# watercolor paper, otherwise it would have been a disaster!!!! The paper cupped horribly while it was wet, but flattened out perfectly after I allowed it to air dry.
I added a customer cut layer of fun foam behind the diecut to give it good support and finished off the piece with a tiny dots of Nuvo Morning Dew Crystal Drops for a bit of sparkle & shine. That was the desert option for this challenge!
Happy Anniversary to my dear hubby of 42 years, who encourages me to use treasures from his wood trash. My Deer, I truly am happiest when Iâm with you!!!
Thanks for swinging by and taking a look at my card for the I-might-use-that-one-day challenge!
