This weeks Clean & Simple Challenge was surprisingly fun and challenging. The CAS517 - Its COLD! - 01/21/2019 challenge was to use the letters of the word COLD to represent design elements in your card. The card could be winter theme, but wasnt necessary.
Here are the design elements in my card that correspond to the letters in the word COLD:
C - Chickadees, of course!
O - Oval shape. I have 2 ovals on this card.
L - Linen Thread
D - Distressed Edge on ovals; distressed edge on outside of embossed panel, done with blade of a scissor; Distress Oxide ink background in the image.
I also entered this card in the most recent Ways to Use It Challenge, WT723 - I Hereby Resolve - 01/17/2019. That challenge was to include in your card one or more of your cardmaking resolutions for this year. One of my new resolutions was to use old, previously unused items in my stash. That item was the Sweet Chickadee stamp I used on this card. I've had this stamp in my collection for an unknown number of years and the reason it was unused was because I was intimidated by how to color the chickadees. I overcame that reluctance to use it today solely because Chickadee starts with the letter C and it fit the Clean & Simple Challenge! How is that for motivation to use an unused item? Teehee...
This card came together quickly once I screwed up the courage to color those delicate little birds. I erred in the side of less-is-more and kept the color to a bare minimum on the birds. I'm hoping the softly colored background will carry the day for color and that it no one will notice that my Chickadees are a bit color-deficient!
I used scissors to create the distressed edge on the embossed panel and then sponged those edges with Memories Soft Wheat ink to coordinate with the edges on the ovals. To give the embossed panel a little lift from the image panel, I added a stack of 3 layers of cardstock underneath (these cs layers have a larger oval cut from them so that they cant be seen when glued underneath.)
I finished the card with a tie of linen thread and a small oval sentiment panel. This sentiment is from a really old SU set called Mini Mates and originally said Youre Sweet! I omitted the S when I stamped it and wrote the letter T in its place. I wanted a silly birdy sentiment, so I improvised!
Thanks for flitting by and looking at my Chickadees. That was tweet of you!

Ha, how funny that the need for a C drove you to use this stamp. I do know how you feel - I actually had to buy a book of North American birds to help me in my colouring, and yet at the same time I tell myself it's okay to colour birds how I like. Except maybe the most distinctive ones; a male cardinal might look odd not in red. I like the oval aperture in the woodland embossing.
