This weeks Clean & Simple Challenge was a fun one! The challenge, CAS517 - Its COLD! - 1/21/19, was to design a card using elements that stand for the the letters C-O-L-D. The card didnât need to be winter oriented, though it could be.
My cowboy card has these elements representing the letters in the word COLD:
C - cowboys!
O - Off the edge stamping and het embossing; linen twine also is cut to trail off the edge of the card base.
L - lariet and lasso on fence post
D - distressed edge (I distressed the bottom edge of the cowboy diecut with one blade on a scissor.)
I also entered this card in the most recent Ways To Use It Challenge, WT723 - I Hereby Resolve 1/17/19. One of my cardmaking resolutions for this year was to make a point of using never used items in my stash. The felt Howdy on this card is from a package of western themed felt die cuts, none of which I have ever used and Iâve had them for well over a decade! Probably closer to 15 years..yikes!!!
This was a fun, challenging and frustrating card. It was fun to come up with the design using my brand spanking new cowboy die from Paper Rose Studio. The frustrating part was getting husky linen twine from Fun Stampers Journey to loop and twist the way I needed it to, without glue showing. The challenging part was to come up with something to represent the letter O in the world COLD. I finally decided to stretch the challenge to include off-the-page stamping as my O element. The starburst is stamped off the edge and heat embossed with clear powder to give it some shine. I did more heat embossing at the bottom of the card front with a direct to paper technique with the Versamark pad. This added shiny strip below the diecut cowboy panel for interest.
I finished off the card front by adding the felt Howdy, for the sole purpose of holding down the end of the lariet. Who knew that adding faux rope could add so many challenges to a cards design!
This was a delightful challenge because it was based on the makers creativity in coming up with elements based on letters in a single word. It was just what I needed to give my creative juices flowing! Thank you for swinging by and checking out my cowboy card.
Can you think of a card to make using the letters in the word COLD? Bet you can. Please join us; I canât wait to see your card!

Awesome masculine card! I really love the black silhouettes. I have a similar card making resolution. I think using what we have in our stash is a great way to have more gratitude.

Beautiful masculine card. The silhouettes look super against the kraft background. It must be wonderful to feel with the different texture from the twine and felt. I usually draw my twine line with a faint pencil and then make a very delicate trail of glossy accents to stick it when I want to pull off something like this.
I can think of COLD easily, add CAS into the mix and I freeze ;-).
