We have had a really trying couple of years with my step-sons.. and I have been so overwhelmed with everything.. running a business.. my fathers failing health... you name it. While there is some light at the end of the tunnel.. some days it seems quite dim. When I heard we needed to use the color of the year Coral, I immediately thought of coral in the sea.. underwater.. which is EXACTLY how I have felt this year. Underwater.. just at the surface watching everything go by in slow motion.
I image transferred the girl on there using goldens gel matte medium. A bit rusty on this and I'll admit it took me 3 tries before it worked LOL .. then used a combination of gesso and acrylic paint to put the darkness / light in there.. I wanted to actually incorporate the color .. so I mixed some coral distress ink with thick gesso and pounced that into the stencil ( this will ruin your DI blender btw LOL ) I also used a colored pencil to write some frustrations and words of affirmation. I often think we as women and mothers feel ashamed to not like our kids.. or that we feel overwhelmed.. Im here to tell you.. It is absolutely OK!!!

So glad to see you again, Jessica, I was thrilled when I saw Dina mention you had made samples. This really does give the feeling of coming up through the water from the dark depths towards the surface where the light is shining through, and with little drifts of seaweed around you. I hope real life works out to be the same. Not the seaweed ;-).
Love the concept and the execution. Sometimes emotions that are impossible to express in words, can be more vividly expressed visually. You did a great job of this.
Awesome way to capture the way you are feeling. I've felt that way before. A friend shared a card with me and it had a verse inside that was so encouraging to me at the time and since. Psalm 18:16. Hope things turn the corner for you.
