Happy New Year! It's my week to be hostess in the Color Challenge, and I've picked my favorite, Bermuda Bay, along with Blackberry Bliss and So Saffron for this week's colors. The dessert option is ribbon.
I love this new stamp set, and had a lot of fun masking the girl. When she was completely covered, I used a blending brush and Distress Oxide ink to create the glowing yellow background. Then I removed the masks and set about coloring her. For the first time, ever, I tried coloring with SU inks. And I learned a lot! Inks don't really blend like watercolors do, and once they're dry, they're set. Next time I will try the wet-on-wet technique and water down the stronger colors! Still, I'm happy with the way the coloring turned out.
I decided to create my own background, and inked up the embossing folder with Bermuda Bay ink. Well! The result is certainly NOT what I expected! I have no idea why the color didn't transfer to the whole background, but I really like it! I cut out both layers with stitched rectangle dies, added the ribbon, and popped up the focal image on some foam tape, brushed the Bermuda Bay areas with glitter brush, added the sequins and called it good!
Thanks for stopping by, and please play along with us this week! And again, I wish everyone the happiest of New Years in 2019!

Adorable, Barbara! And thank you for writing of your process...I always enjoy the details. You should add this to the TLC gallery this week, Embossing Folders.
Happy New Year.

I agree with you about water coloring with the SU inks, but Distress inks work great as water colors IMO. Must be the special formulation of the Distress inks and the way they activate with water. That said, the first thing I noticed about your card is how pretty the coloring is on the hat and scarf, so you sure made those inks work! I love the yellow glow behind this sweet image and the ribbon is so yummy!
