When I was trying to figure out what to do with this image, I came across the SC586 sketch here at Splitcoast. I liked the 3 panels, and thought it would add interest to my scene. Plus, the long panel along the bottom was a perfect place for my greeting. This is actually the second iteration of this card, at least for the image panel. The first one I printed on watercolor paper, and used masking fluid to protect the buildings & trees so I could watercolor the sky. I apparently have yet to figure out the best way to use masking fluid. When I removed it, despite having let the panel dry, it peeled up the paper as well! :( I'm not sure if I left the masking on too long, or what. Thankfully, I had not deleted the image file on my computer, so I just changed course with my mediums, and reprinted it onto vellum-finish bristol paper. I also printed it onto copy paper & fussy cut that. I applied a thin coat of Tombow Mono Multi glue to the back (thank you, Kelly Latevola for that tip!), let that dry, then masked off my image. I ink blended the sky with Distress inks, leaving a light halo around the star. I spattered white & Pearl acrylic paint for a starry sky. Then I carefully removed my mask, and colored the rest of the image with my Prismacolor pencils. MUCH better result!
I printed my greeting onto another piece of bristol that I'd cut to size. I trimmed my image panel, taking out 1/8" slices between the panels, rather than just cutting the panel & spreading the pieces apart, so the image would look right. My idea was to make it look like the viewer is looking through a window at this scene. I adhered everything to a brown panel cut to 3-3/4x5". I matted that with white, then adhered it to a navy panel. Finally, I mounted that to a white card base. Despite my false start with the masking fluid, I love how this card came out!
