My mom always likes me to make a couple of religious Christmas cards for priest & bishop friends of hers. I had used this image & greeting on another card, and still had the file on my computer, so I figured why reinvent the wheel, rather than just use this combination again?
I had previously sized the image & greeting in Photoshop on a blank canvas that I'd created. I printed the composite onto a piece of watercolor paper with my Epson Workforce printer. Epson inks are waterproof, so I can watercolor images I print with them. I used my Inktense pencils to color the image. I picked up the color from the pencils with a damp paintbrush, & used that to paint the image. I find I get the maximum control over color intensity with this method. Finally, I die cut my panel with an oval die.
For the background, I cut a piece of dark blue cardstock to A2 size. I placed my oval where I wanted it to go, then traced around it with a pencil. I used that as a guide for my inking. I wanted a "glow" effect around the image, so I inked with Black Soot Distress ink around the perimeter of the panel, leaving the area around the pencil line un-inked. When I'd finished inking, I adhered my oval, added a strip of patterned paper along the bottom, and mounted it to a white card base. A pretty quick card to pull together, since I'd already done the work with the digital image & greeting!
