I am admittedly late to the game this year with making our holiday cards. So I've made a list of pretty much anything I can find on my Pinterest boards that is (or at least looks like it is) quick & easy to do. To that end, I found this card by Michelle Laycock. I liked the basic idea & design, but decided to lighten it up a bit by using navy cardstock, rather than black.
I tore a mask from copy paper, and taped that to my cardstock panel. I stamped 3 trees in Versamark ink, varying the heights and making sure the bottom of each stamped over the mask, not on the panel. I sprinkled on Verdigris embossing powder. I know Michelle mentioned in her post not to heat the panel until all the stamping & applying of embossing powder was done, but I didn't feel that confident in my ability not to mess things up. So I went ahead & melted the embossing powder on my first trees. I replaced the mask, and stamped 2 more trees among/between the green ones. I also made sure to overlap the green just a bit. I sprinkled on Princess Gold embossing powder, and heat set again. Finally, I stamped the foreground tree, and heat embossed with Liquid Platinum powder. I also used Liquid Platinum to heat emboss the greeting.
Even with the blue rather than black, I still felt the panel was a bit stark & bare, & not overly wintry. So I took a white Prismacolor pencil, and colored along the "hill" that was in front of the background tree line. I blended the color out with Gamsol on a paper stump, just to soften the bottom edge a bit. I added a few more "hills/drifts," and also colored along the baseline of the foreground tree. I'm not sure if I totally love the effect, but, as Kelly Latevola says, decisions were made and it is what it is. I do like the card overall; just not sure about the "snow."
