The Clean & Simple Challenge, CAS510 WOOD You Coluld You WOOD - 12/3/18, was to create a card using wood as the main element. And the challenge leader encouraged us to be creative and not be afraid to try something different!
With those instructions in mind, I decided to be brave and cobble together this card using a bunch of leftovers from a recent Ways to Use It Challenge. The elements on this card that are leftovers are the Buffalo Check frayed edge rectangle, the pine sprig die cuts and the sentiment label. So far, no wood elements, but that was soon remedied!
I used my new Sizzix 3-d Lumber embossing folder to create the deeply textured Woodgrain background. To get the grain on the wood to be more noticeable, I smeared some light tan ink on the inside of the embossing folder before running it through the Big Shot. That embossed panel was glued to the card front along with the other pieces you see.
The second wood element on the card is the cute sled image from SU Winter Wishes (it is diecut using a die I got from Dies by Dave). I kept the sled CAS by stamping the image on white watercolor paper and doing a light, barely visible tan watercolor wash on it. To make the sled stand out a bit more, I layered a couple more diecuts underneath to make it thicker and more substantial looking.
Thanks for taking a look at my take on the wood challenge. Bet you have some great ideas about incorporating wood in a card, why donât you join us? Itâs great fun to play along!

Great job with this challenge! I love how you have a couple different wood elements and that you could use up so many leftover pieces. Wonderful country look.

This is TERRIFIC 'brighten someone's spirit' card! I am in love with that emb folder, must find that. also, super smart to layer the sled a few times and make it more substantial! i also totally dig that buffalo check 'blanket' and again, another must for me to get that die cut. Just wonderful choices and thought looks CAS, it is a lot of thoughts and good choices coming together ;) thanks for inspiring. Teresa
