Pam is our hostess in the Color Challenge this week, and she has given us a beautiful combination that certainly helped me make progress with my Christmas cards! The colors are Merry Merlot, Shaded Spruce and Vanilla. The dessert option is shimmer or glitter.
I wanted to use this leaping deer image on the embossed merlot background, but I decided the card also needed some Christmas plaid. I got out my Plaid Background stamp set and went to work. The set is really nice because you can make your plaid any colors you wish. I had an idea in my head that required a plaid background over the whole card front. It would have been nice! :-(
Stamping the green was quick and easy. But no, I wanted a red stripe in my plaid. So I lined up the second stamp in my MISTI, and figured out how to get the placement sort-of "perfect." First time was good, second time: Oops! What happened?!?! The Merlot lines were nowhere near centered!
Back to the drawing board. I finished the plaid with reasonable success, but then had to do surgery on the panel to remove the Oops. And then this layout revealed itself to me! Always wanting dessert, I added a freehand-cut layer of "snow," and glittery washi tape down the sides. Popped that center and plaid layer up on foam tape to give some dimension, and called it done!
Thanks for stopping by, and please play along with us this week!

Your happy accident led to your gorgeous plaid and this beautiful creation! Love the layered panels, including the gold sparkle and the gold leaping deer!

I love plaid on Christmas cards and making your own is even better. You did a great job on it and the design is beautiful with all the shimmer and shine. I have to check out the plaid stamp you used.

Barbara, what great plaid you created for your lovely Christmas card. The gold leaping dear against the beautiful embossed background is gorgeous. Great card!

Great minds think alike Barbara! Love that deer - I used him too! I really like how you used the quilted EF and the plaid together. It gives a very nice feel to the card.

What a great design and I can't believe you made that plaid! It's just beautiful. I've never had any of the plaid maker stamps, but I probably should because I love plaid so much. The deer leaping over the shimmery snow is a great and bold focal point.
