We have a friend who is blind, and it can be incredibly difficult sometimes for me to make cards for her. Mostly just coming up with new ideas. Since she can't see, I try to focus on more tactile elements in the cards I make for her. Her birthday is this weekend, and so I made this card for her.
The inspiration for my card came from this one that I found via a Google search, on Altenew's website. I recently purchased the "Create-a-Wreath" die set by Altenew, and liked how the elements were placed in the sample card.
I cut a panel of watercolor paper to 4x5.25", and inked it with Dried Marigold & Worn Lipstick. I wanted a gradient effect, so I let the color fade out to almost white at the top of the panel. After I inked it, I embossed it with the "Heather's Lace" folder.
I die cut the oval from the wreath set from purple glitter paper. I also die cut a few flowers & greenery from watercolor paper with the "Funky Floral #2" set. I colored the flora elements by scribbling on each with a Tombow marker, then spreading the color out with a water brush. After they dried, I glued the various parts for each flower/leaf together. I then glued them together to create my arrangement, and glued that to the oval frame.
I die cut the "happy" from green shimmer cardstock, and 4 more times from white cardstock. I glued the die cuts together, to create a thicker word. For the "birthday" part of the greeting, I pierced the braille letters into a scrap of bristol paper, and cut that into a narrow strip. I inked it with Worn Lipstick and Dried Marigold, to give it a coral color.
I glued my frame/floral arrangement to the embossed panel. I glued my happy in place, and adhered the braille strip with foam tape, straddling the descenders of the 2 p's and the y in happy. Finally, I adhered the panel to a white card base, on which I'd glued a frame cut from the same purple glitter paper as the oval. Our friend was very impressed with the card, which we delivered today. I described to her how it looked, and she could even read the braille letters! I'd say it's a win all around!

Andrea, This card is so beautiful. Brillant & Happy card. Sorry for the person to who it's intended, can't see all the brightness and heat that emerges from your card. You have an attention to detail, textures to write the sentiments in braiille. . This card will go straight to the heart!

I just love your happy colors on this and all the wonderful texture. How thoughtful to make a card for your blind friend. I can only imagine how hard to include things they can feel. You did a spectacular job on this and your background gradient is beautifully done.

Oh my, Andrea! This is such a beautiful card, and you have put so much heart and love into making it! It's no wonder your friend was so impressed with it and will surely keep it close to her heart. What a stunning card with such wonderfully warm and happy colors, and the texture is amazing! I think the Braille is absolutely brilliant of you to add and now will open lots of creativity for you to make more cards for your friend. I love it and am inspired by it myself. A man in our church is blind, and I'm sure he would enjoy receiving a card that has Braille on it. You are such a dear friend and so very talented. Sending hugs and love!! xoxo
