Karen is our TLC hostess this week and she has a fun one - TLC714 Doodled Plaid. It's a holiday here, so while I did clean the oven and most of my deep fat fryer, I then took a break and came and made this. I'd been thinking of using the TH alcohol ink plaid technique, but was curious to try the idea I had of inking a plaid embossing folder - it works well .
I have a Darice plaid folder, so I inked one side with the twisted citron and embossed it. Then I inked the OTHER side with tumbled glass, carefully lined the paper up as well as I could and embossed it. After cleaning the folder I inked the first side up again with mustard seed, and offset the paper slightly. After all this, I ran the paper through the Wizard with a couple of shims to flatten it back out.
Then I did a little doodling - and then I was stumped because I don't typically use a lot of plaid; even making samples when I featured the DIY plaid tutorial Karen has linked as a starting point was a struggle.
So I simply cut it with a puzzle die, adding an inlaid leaf in the only piece with no doodling. The cat die-cut has been sitting on my desk for a while, and after deciding where to position the sentiment I thought I could cut one of the cats out of it and add it. The "loose" puzzle piece is popped up on foam. I have another slightly smudgy piece of plaid, so I may be back later in the week with another card. Thanks for a fun challenge, Karen.

This is a TERRIFIC outcome of so much thought put into it. WOW. Super cute and i bet in person, even so much better! LOVE IT and thanks for all the explanation. It is inspiring to get me going on this, i once inked a plaid emb folder and loved it, but never tried it again. NEED to do it with all this other thought and detail added to it, that is the key to your success! thanks for sharing, Teresa

Cute..you got great results with your ef made plaid! I really like the color combo you used. I love the way you did the loose piece in the middle. You should try making the plaid with markers (using a chisel edge helps) ..it's fun. Enjoy your day off.

Wow what an intricate card - yet it's so simple looking! Love those instructions and though I don't have a plaid EF I might have to try it on another pattern. Your card is so well done, and those doodles - they must be tiny. But they are just right for this design. Nice job!

We always want what we don't have...so, I want your tools and supplies. I want your creative thinking. I want to always see your cards in the gallery.
This is so incredibly unique with each element you incorporated into your design. I love it!
