CAS499 Bear in the Woods - “I’ve been framed!”

Poster: Boss

The Clean & Simple Challenge this week, CAS 499 - Frame It - 9/17/18, was to make a card with a frame incorporated into the design.
I decided to simply things and find a pre-stamped image and then find a frame to fit it. This fun bear-in-the-woods image had been lingering in my to-be-colored file for several years, so I figured the time was right to use it! The only frame I had that fit this tall, skinny image was one from Taylored Expressions. This was the first time to use it (and I wonÂ’t tell you how long IÂ’ve have it -too embarrassing!). The image was quickly colored with watercolor pencils...I soon realized that the cardstock was not WC friendly when I hit it with the aqua brush. Yikes!!!! It was fortunate that the really icky WC got cut off when it was die cut. Whew! Lucky save...
The leaves were cut from a piece that I did using SmackinÂ’ acetate watercoloring Technique.

Loll Thompson here on SCS does this technique often and I so admire the effect she achieves with it. This was my second time to try it, so I am definitely not an expert! I smeared 3 green Distress ink pads onto a large acrylic block - I used Twisted Citron, Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive. Then water was spritzed onto the Inks and a sheet of acetate was pressed onto the wet ink. Next, I smacked the inked acetate sheet onto a piece of Strathmore Bristol cardstock. I did this several times, adding whatever green struck my fancy until I had a nice, motley looking design. I let it dry completely before die cutting the leaves.

The leaves and 2 piece frame were kind of snake-y to keep in place when I arranged them on the rough texture of the brick embossed background. I used Press N Seal ( a Jen McGuire trick) to temporarily stabilize the elements so that I could remove them to get glue in the right places. This is the best method EVER for keeping pesky diecuts in perfect alignment while prepping them for placement. Thank you, Jen, for this genius application of a product that your hubby developed!!!

Thank you beary much for peeking at my framed forest scene. Mr. Bear appreciates the views, and he is hoping that you admire his sparkly eyes. I assured him that you would!

Susy, I really like that woodsy scene and the frame is perfect for it. So glad you got to use some of your neglected pieces. I'm sure we all have a stash of them. Good to see you in the challenge today.

Oh! I love it when I can use things from my stash and you did that wonderfully here! What a great looking bear and I love that you had a frame die to fit! I love that technique you used for the leaves. You did a beautiful job putting all your elements together!

Looks as though this bear is in disbelief that he was sighted! Very cool scene ... Don't you love it when the icky part is easily cut away & all that's left is just right?!
