Cathy is our hostess for the WTUI challenge this week. A couple of weeks back I made a suitable card which I knew DH could use for his best friend's birthday, but one of the VSN challenges inspired me to make this one.
You'll find Cathy's Happy Camper challenge HERE. This scene reminds me of a campsite in the Auvergne, France, where we have stayed a couple of times. It was after one of our mountain climbs that I promised myself always to pack a backpack for our camping holidays.
I started by die-cutting the trees from a piece of cling-wrap background from my scrap background box. Then I realised this was going to need to be a large card! I sponged the foreground with regular distress inks, then the sky area with DOX inks which I spritzed with water and then dabbed off with kitchen towel. I stamped Fred Bear and went to bed.
Rushing to keep within the time limit, I coloured Fred before work this morning. To make him go quickly, I did the reverse of the pencil on watercolour technique I used for Polly's Colour on Colour challenge last week - I added all my shading with Couleur d'Art pencils and then whizzed over him with Inktense pencils. Added the sentiment, edged it with a Sharpie, stuck it to the base and just had time to make the bus without running - but kept within the VSN limit .

Love this darling scene and the texture on the trees making them look so life-like, Sabrina! A friend of mine just came back from a camping trip and showed me pictures of a bear that had come right up to their porch. I don't think it was quite as adorable as this one though!

A fabulous card! I especially love those trees. I had to read your description to see how you had done them. Thanks for always including how you made your card for us!
