My layout was set by the sketch challenge, my colors and requirement for older stamps by the Retro Rubber Stamps challenge, and the theme of "celebrate" by the Paper Players challenge.
Combining those two, my mind immediately went to red-white-blue sky elements. Each summer here in Boise we have a beautiful hot air balloon festival, so my inspiration was complete!!!
I dug into my proudly preserved stamp collection and found the perfect sentiment stamp released by Stampin' Up in 1993 (YES, 25 years ago!!!!). The stamp set is called "More Great Greetings", and has all kinds of special occasions sentiments in it. I stamped the sentiment using SU Not Quite Navy ink,
The balloons contain no stamping, just paper piecing behind the Stampin' Up (SU) Night of Navy diecuts that are in the current SU catalog, but were first released in their 2017 Occasions Mini Catalog 18 months ago. Those colors are SU Whisper White, Marina Mist, and Real Red.
I die cut the colors for the balloons, and alternated their location in the balloons so that none of them are alike. These pieces were glued to the back of the balloons using Tombow Glue.
The whole balloon in the center is raised off the front of the card using adhesive foam strips LIBERALLY on the back. The other two balloons were glued to the card front, then trimmed with paper snips to the panel edges.
The card base is SU Night of Navy, and the matting is SU Real Red. The red-matted white panel was attached to the cad base using adhesive foam strips to give the card more of a "floating" feeling by raising it off the card itself.
This card was pretty straightforward to make. The only time consuming part was gluing all the little pieces to the back of the balloons. So I am rating the difficulty level at "2" out of a possible "5".
Happy 4th of July!
