Louisiana is my neighbor. I made a bayou scene in green because that is the color of a Louisiana swamp. The sun there is also not yellow, it is a hazy white ball in the sky. I left out the snakes because I don't like them. (Don't get your feelings hurt, my Louisiana friends, because I don't like Texas snakes either.)
I have another vacation story to go with this card. We spent the night in Atchafalaya Bayou one night--they have the longest bridge (20 miles) over that swamp and a rest area smack dab in the middle of it. In the daytime, it's a swampy kind of beautiful. At night, you can hear all the critters out in the swamp making their swampy noises. It's great. Except for the mosquitoes. BIG mosquitoes. As a Texan, I am humbled to say that they are probably bigger than our Texas mosquitoes. Anyway, back to my story...We were newlyweds and this was probably one of the first long road trips we had taken together...went to Alabama to visit relatives. On the way back, a kind relative had packed a picnic for us. We waited too long to eat it and got very sick from food poisoning on that trip home. I got it first and my husband kept driving except when he had to stop for me to...well, you know. By the time we got to Atchafalaya Basin we both had it. We didn't have any money for a hotel (BTW, they don't have any hotels in Atchafalaya Basin anyway.) So we slept in the car at the rest area, parked near the restroom so we could...well...
It would have been nice to leave the windows open because it was a hot, muggy summer night. Nice, except for those pesky BIG mosquitoes. When my husband tells this story he always says you could hear them knocking against the windows trying to get in. In the morning, I was over it enough that I could drive. We beat a trail for home as fast as we could. I do have to say that was the cheapest road trip ever. Neither one of us bought anything to eat on that whole trip--except I bought a Sprite when we were almost home.
We can laugh about it now and, as I said, my husband likes to retell it with embellishing the size of the mosquitoes.
Fun Fact: I put on my Louisiana play list while I was making this card. I'm sure it helped get me in the mood!

Great way to depict LA! I have to try to forget about all the snakes here and there and never mention them to my DH relatives or they will never come to visit. I cannot imagine how uncomfortable you must have been trying to sleep with all the windows up on a hot night in Atchafalaya! But your card makes us forget all about the negatives of humidity and mosquitos!

What a story! Phew! Between the mosquitos and the food not staying with you, not a trip to remember....except who could forget it!!! Love your depiction of the bayou, right down to the moss on the trees. Lovely!

Ooh, that seafoam color is perfect for your LA swamp card! Love the Spanish Moss you created and your story made me laugh out loud - and feel very bad for you and your husband!

Oh my gosh - what a FUN story (now that it's over for you!) Love your Spanish moss draped over the branch - and sorry, but I don't think Louisiana will be in my top 10 states to visit from this story!!

What a fun and funny story! Thanks for sharing that piece of your lives with us. We were just down in NC and SC and I got to see some Spanish moss. I love your soft green colors and your whole scene. Just lovely.
