This card was made for the Try Stampin' on Tuesday color challenge #3: https://TryStampinOnTuesday/ that required the use of red, turquoise, and yellow plus a neutral.
I had spotted this beautiful card made by Stephanie Fischer http://www.thecraftythinker.com.au/2...-mondrian.html and absolutely fell in love with it! She was inspired by Piet Mondrian, a Dutch artist from the early 1900's.
I recreated her card here, with just slight color and sentiment variations. You just can't make her card more perfect that SHE created it!
HINT #1: In addition to Stephanie's instructions are to use the handy clothes dryer fabric softener sheet trick to help you control all the little bits and pieces. Just take two sheets of softener sheets and fold them so there are 4 layers, then when you run your dies through your die cutting machine, place this 4-layer sandwich UNDERNEATH your paper directly on your cutting plate. This will result in your bits and pieces sticking to the dryer sheet so you can remove them one-by-one to piece them into the swirly black outlines. This technique works fantastic for any intricate die cuts like butterflies, dragonflies, or stain glass!
HINT #2: For easy placement of your sentiment, first stamp it on your white cardstock (I used Memento ink and stamped 3x using my MISTI), then center your die over the stamped word and run through your die cutter. This will allow you to place the cutout sentiment exactly in the center of mosaic circle. Then just glue the sentiment piece inside your swirly BEFORE attaching it to your card so you are sure to place the piece so it's lined up how you want it. I attached it with adhesive foam strips to add extra dimension to the card.
HINT #3: To save yourself a lot of grief with glue gobs, I glued the pieces in without s super lot of care about getting glue where I didn't want it,,,, then used my SU Glue Remover Eraser to rub off any that was showing after my piecing was done.
Again, thanks to Stephanie for her creativity in designing this Mondrian type card!!! You can tell she has an art background!
While this card looks really complicated to make, it really isn't! I'm giving it a difficulty rating of "3" out of "5". Especially if you use the hints I shared!!!
