For MariLynn's Inspiration MIXed media challenge. Well, I don't have Pinterest so I resorted to Google Images, and my inspiration photo which I found (searching for mixed media + gesso + blue + yellow + flowers) is in post #4 of the challenge thread.
This bears absolutely no resemblance to it, all it did was trigger a memory of Lydia's Gilded Relief tutorial, and I must say I'm far happier with this than with my first attempt.
I painted a really bad scrap background with gesso, and before work yesterday I had added some RAK TH die-cuts - the largest cogs and key, and added another coat of gesso.
When I got home from work I decided that just one layer of cogs wasn't enough, so I die-cut a whole load of smaller ones and stuck them over in several layers, along with a couple more coats of gesso.
When that was dry, I painted over everyting with some blue and buff titanium acrylic paint.
This morning I trimmed it down to a square and started adding my gilding, using Rubn'Buff, Craft-T rub-ons and Inka Gold. Then I edged the piece with silver acrylic and added some Metallic Seasonings chunky EP.
I computer generated the sentiment, and I probably get bonus points because originally I had no stamping at all, but then I thought I'd add the notebook page. The piece behind it is based on an old leather writing case I used to have, with brass fittings, which came from a great-aunt. It's kraft, sponged with browns, embossed with a Cuttlebug ef and then with some Judikins microglaze for a soft finish. The little fittings are cut with one of the tassels in the Spellbinders Banner Basics set. I popped my "book of life" up on foam tape and added a Maya Road chipboard key covered with gold EP.
I tried to add some sequins but they just didn't look right.
Oh, and the base is sponged with Black Soot distress stain.

Oh my, this is so beautiful and I love the sentiment. That blue is so rich and pretty with the gold. The extra cogs and key were a beautiful and perfect addition.

Amazing work of heart Sabrina! I love all that mixing and the way everything works so well together; and what a sentiment! He is the Alpha and Omega and holds the key to all!

The book all by itself would make a lovely card, Sabrina. I love all the details you put on it. The bg just glows...what a gorgeous shade if blue. All your creativity comes to life in this fantastic creation.

Oh, Sabrina! This is so beautiful and filled with such an amazing variety of mixed media items that I really love seeing (and maybe one day I shall try - I hope so). But the texture is amazing, and I love the cogs and keys and especially the Book of Life! Yes, only God holds that key. Such a powerful message! I can see why this was favorited. I've missed a lot this week, but I'm so glad I saw this one!! Hugs and love! xoxo
