My friend Colleen had a beautiful card on her blog with this technique. I just had to give it a try. It's pretty easy and I love the subtle look of the images.
First, the front panel was sponged solid with Distress Oxide ink Peacock Feathers on mixed media paper. I haven't tried with regular distress inks, but would image it it would work well.
Once the panel was dry, I heat embossed the flowers in silver. Then I took my water brush and went over every petal and leaf, adding water and then blotting with a paper towel to remove some of the colour. I found I was able to do this up to three times for each petal or leaf with my mixed media paper not pilling.
I still wanted there to be more contrast so used a white watercolour pencil to add some details to the flowers.
