The sketch just seemed to be crying for a brilliant single image that really stood out. I recalled the beautiful butterflies in the Stampin' Up! 2001 retired "Wonderful Wings" set, and everything just seemed to fall in place!
The swallowtail butterfly was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock; then colored with Stampin' Write Markers (all three colors retired). I used a photograph to help me color it as realistically as possible.
The butterfly panel was matted with Brocade Blue cardstock, which was glued with Tombow.
The card base is a piece of SU Night of Navy cardstock cut 4-1/4" wide and 8-1/5" long, It was scored and folded across the long side at 2-3/4" from each end to create the gate fold that met in the middle of the card front.
The matted butterfly panel was mounted on the LEFT side of the card opening using adhesive foam strips (be careful the strips don't extend past the front card opening!).
I hand tied a small yellow bow which I mounted in the upper left of the butterfly panel with a Mini Glue Dot.
The sentiment was die cut from SU Hello Honey cardstock using QuicKutz Basic Phrases die set, and glued to the right lower front of the card base using Tombow glue.
I used a small piece of adhesive foam strip (that I had made less sticky by tapping one against my jeans, but would allow easy closure of the card) that I attached to the right back side of the butterfly panel to raise it the same height above the right side of the opening as the left when it is closed.
Obviously, the step that took the longest was coloring the butterfly; but even that wasn't hard to do. The card came together pretty quickly after that.
