This is a late card for Ky's Let's Play Favourites challenge a couple of weeks ago. I took my bright colours (so not me) from Kate Crane, along with the use of text in the background though it's mostly covered up. And I used one of my favourite technique for mixed media backgrounds - though it's a slow one and I haven't enough time to use it much recently. You can find the Layered Gesso Background tutorial HERE.
I pretty much followed the tutorial.
Base layer of gesso.
Stamped trust, shelter, refuge, shadow over it, horizontal and perpendicular.
Brushed light aqua and yellow acrylic over, mixing it.
Added more gesso in places.
SU mask, glass bead medium mixed with orange and green pigments.
Carabelle clock stencil, Mowed Lawn and Salty Sea distress ink.
Plaid feathers (part of a dreamcatcher stencil set) added with texture medium mixed with blue pigment.
Rubbed with luster rub-ons when dry, also some of the card base.
Edged with white acrylic.
Sentiment stamped on white card and border added while in the die.
The feathers were stamped in Versamark on heavy vellum and embossed with gold. They're coloured on the back with Sharpies and sponged on the front with distress inks, and then finished off with some hints of Stickles.
To hold them down, I die-cut a button (MFT) from a tomato paste tube and tied it with twine. Actually I had three feathers, but that was covering too much of the background...I already think I covered too much but a background on its own isn't much good.

I love all the ways you built up this project. It's amazing what we can accomplish when we have a little more time. That's a great technique to choose, too! Thanks for playing!

Your mixed media creations start me itching to get messy and make some...it used to be a fav thing for me until time restricted me to sharpies in the car at my lunch break. This is beyond words fabulous...especially the feathers and soup can button.
