I made this card to submit to two different challenges this week. The Ways to Use it Challenge, WT672 - Give Me A Second Chance (1/25/1, was to pull out old unused stamping tools and use them. The Friday Free For All Challenge, F4A414 -All the Love - 1/26/18, was to make a card for someone you love, using hearts if desired.
The Ways to Use It Challenge to pull out old stamping tools that hadn't been used in a while was just what I needed to inspire me. Sorting out unused items is always on my list for the start of the new year and this was a good incentive!
I started the project with a piece from my "possibles pile" that had been dry embossed 3 years ago (maybe longer!) with a bird & swirl design that I used and loved when I first got my Cuttlebug. I honestly can't remember the last card I used this on, it's been that long ago! From there I dug out some leftover leaf fronds that had been discards when I last used the SU 2-step Bird Punch. Again, it's been quite some time since that punch had been squeezed! Ha..
Since I knew this card was also going to be used for the Friday Free For All Challenge to make a love card, I pulled out my old, and almost never used, Spellbinders scalloped heart die set.
I was too lazy to make my own flowers, so I rustled around in the embelli drawer and pulled out a relatively new package (less than a year old) of paper flowers with pearls already attached. The colors of the flowers dictated the color theme of the card, so I found close matches in my SU cardstock supply. This lead me to use a previously unused color in my stash, SU Peekaboo Peach.
When I started I intended to make an A2 sized card, and cut the embossed panel accordingly. As I started to add the diecuts and the flowers, I realized they were not going to fit on an A2 cardbase, so changed the format to a square card. So far so good....that is until I finished punching the Scallop Trim border on a panel and discovered that I didn't cut the panel large enough to allow for the discard - it ended up being a RECTANGLE not a square! Ugh...wrong shape. Toss it and try again or try to muckle through with it?
Not wanting to waste more time punching another panel, I opted instead to waste time searching through my dies looking for something to visually balance the look of the square panel on the Rectangle panel. I discovered this little ivy tendril die that I purchased many years ago (5?) and never used because it was wimpy and I couldn't think of a way to use it. Finally, a way to use the die and rescue the card at the same time! Win-win and all because of a card challenge. How fun is that?
The rest of the card came together quickly, with little pearls on the Scallop Trim border to match the purchased flowers. Since the colors were slightly unconventional for a Valentine card, I thought it might help tie the color theme together to have booth orange & strawberry pink in the sentiment on the heart.
It was double-fun to make a card for 2 different challenges at one time. It's the first time I've done it and it added an extra element of delight to the process.
Thank you so much for stopping by to look and Happy Valentine Hugs to you!

Lovely card, Suzy. You did a marvelous job using old tools and supplies! Love the balance you got with the vines and flowers. Thanks for playing in my challenge!
