This card, you guys. Man it took forever to make! I wanted to use the metal look die cuts technique I saw on a Jennifer McGuire video a while back. Basically you die cut a shape several times and glue them together to make a thicker die cut, then ink the front all over with Versamark ink. Then you put EP on it and heat, and while it is still hot and gooey, hit it with more EP and do this several times build up a thick coat. After the second or third time you add a little ink and EP to the edges so that you have the EP melted over the edges as well.
So I started with this fancy heart die, which comes with a frame so you can cut out the heart after you do the fancy part. I die cut it twice from plain white cardstock, glued them together, then did the embossing thing described above. I started with detail gold but it wasn't shiny enough so I switched to Egyptian Gold after the first round of embossing. After finishing that, I took a piece of white cardstock cut slightly smaller than the red card front and die cut the fancy heart out of it, but did NOT use the frame, so I had a big piece of cardstock with the filigree heart shape in the middle. Then I ran it through the Big Shot in the Heart embossing folder. I lined up the gold embossed piece with the heart shape cut out of the white piece and glued it down. Then I used foam tape to attach the white piece to the card front.
More attempts at this card design would go faster. It took me some experimenting to get the hang of the heart die and frame (new dies) and the multi embossing part, with time spent sucking on burnt fingertips, cussing, and adding more ep and heat to re-cover the areas I'd knocked the embossing off!
If I had to do it again, I'd probably start with a less complex die for my first attempt at the metal die cut look, but I do like the way it turned out. I will be using this technique again!

Oh my, I can identify with your challenges with the multi-layered embossing! Jennifer makes it look so easy but it does take practice, and time, that's why I haven't used it much after my initial attempts.
Great Valentine's Day card, the gold heart did turn out very lovely.
