I recently got the nesting heart dies from Sizzix and have been playing a bit with them. I wanted to make a card using the die cut as a frame over something underneath, and got the idea of using ribbons.
I took a white scrap and dug out light pink and raspberry colored ribbons and rickrack and used tape runner to stick them to the card stock. I took the pink Bazzill cardstock and die cut the heart shape out of it.
Then I put the pink piece on the kraft card where I wanted it to be and lightly traced the heart opening in pencil. I used the traced heart to line up my ribbon-covered white piece so that it would show correctly through the opening, and attached it. Then used round pop dots (a LOT of them) to attach the pink piece to the front of the card so that there was a fairly deep opening. I like how it turned out! I usually am using a magazine picture or a Pinterest pic to help me compose my cards and then make them my own by using different colors, stamps, embellishments etc. This one was one that I visualized in my head and made happen -- those don't always turn out like a pictured so I was happy that this one did!
It's also a cool way to use up paper strip scraps, or you could do it with washi tape, and you could use other shapes as well -- a star shape would be great for a birthday card with some bright colored paper strips or washi tape! Or a Christmas card with Christmas pattern paper strips.
This card took a while because I was figuring out how to make it, but I can see it being a 10 minute card going forward, especially if using paper strips from a coordinated set.
TFL!
