My birthday month is June and it not only celebrated the day of my birth it usually fell around the end of school for the summer. So this card illustrates a 10 year old me (not sure why I'm dressed like a Dutch girl) enjoying one of my favorite summer activities...riding my bike. Do you remember learning to ride a bike? I do....I got my sister's blue bike (I didn't have one at that time) and my dad held on to the seat as I took off on the grass (in case of falls)...it didn't take long before I realized that at some point he had let go. I was on my own! What a feeling!
This also brings to mind my hometown...it could be another Whykickamoocow...not as small but filled with its share of characters. I remember a neighbor kid, Stevie who loved trains...we could see a train across the Mississippi from our front yard. If old Stevie heard a train whistle he hightailed it there to get a better view and he did his best train noise. We watched from our front window wondering what the heck is going on with this kid. Then there's our aunt and uncle who lived nearby. Aunt Maisy was not the best cook...one time my brother put his fork down on top of her strawberry pie and it was very springy... it came back so fast and flew across the table right into Great Uncle Walt...couldn't tell ya if he noticed or not...he kept right on eating... FYI-names have been changed to protect the innocent..
Thanks for bringing us more adventures of Whykickamoocow Susie..always an entertaining yarn.

I'm surprised you didn't fall over on your bike given how big the basket is, LOL. I remember my dad chasing after me as I started going downhill too fast in the village where it would have been a hard fall compared to the grassy path on our own hill. Your little girl is sweet, and I love looking at the different papers you used for the background and the grass. I have to confess that it's a long time since I would have agreed with the sentiment, but certainly when I was younger I cycled all over the place, undaunted by the steep hills, and loved it. What a fun June card.

Love how you assembled this, Polly - all those wonderful elements and yet your beautifully colored girl just pops.
Love reading your girlhood story, too! It's so nice when creating something awakens fond or funny memories of our pasts.

Polly I am grinning from ear to ear and having a good chuckle at your story. I didn't want it to end. I love it when a card and a write-up evokes memories, to this day I still can't turn a corner on a bike without falling off! Your card is brilliant. You sure are a precious looking little Dutch girl Pol and I LOVE the use of great papers to create the fun background. Your June page on our Whykickamoocow calendar is perfect!

WOW! Summertime bliss captured is a darling array of happiness. If I tried a biographical bike card it would include a red face, lots pf sweat and scratches from tumbling down a hillside filled with brambles... all this as an adult.

Polly, you brought back my memories of learning to ride a bike! This is such a fun combination of images and patterns. I love how you use pp for the bg, especially the grass. You're adorable as a little Dutch girl!

What great memories Polly to go with that stunning vintage feeling card. I too remember learning to ride my bike but it was my little brother that helped me. He is 5 years younger and was so small but he refused to give up on my learning to ride a bike. Once I finally got it I was off. Super card to send to a teapotter.

Loved reading your post and your card is such a delight. I don't remember learning to ride my bike but I sure remember when I crashed it at a time I was told not to be riding. Uh oh, if I had not been so beat up with scrapes, I would have been in big trouble.
