My mom found out over the weekend that my brother's MIL's birthday was Monday. My brother & SIL have only been married for just over 6 years now, and we have never known this date! So I decided to make a belated birthday card for my mom to send.
I stamped the turtle onto a panel of mixed media paper with Tuxedo Black ink, and colored him with my colored pencils, using Gamsol on paper stumps to blend the colors. I die cut that panel with a "Postage Stamps" die. Then I decided I needed grass for him to walk in, so I cut a strip of mixed media paper, inked it with Crushed Olive & Peeled Paint, and die cut with the "Grassy Fields" die. Then (because I can't seem to do things the easy way all the time), I placed the strip into the "Postage Stamps" die to die cut the side & bottom edges, so they would match my panel. I glued that in place with liquid glue.
What would a birthday card (even a belated one) be without the proper accoutrements? So I die cut a banner from bristol paper, used my Tombow markers to color it, die cut the ends with the "Postage Stamps" die so it would mesh with my panel (yes, I'm that much of a glutton for punishment!), and glued it down. I stamped the greeting, using "Sweet Script," with Bamboo Leaves ink.
For the mat, I used the "Blocks - Small" stencil & matte gel medium over a panel of navy cardstock. I had actually tried dry embossing the panel with that stencil, but it didn't come out too well for some reason. Gel medium to the rescue! I let that dry thoroughly, and adhered my main panel to it. Finally, I mounted the card front to a white card base.
